Delphic is back with a new single. It is new and it is different, yet it is surprisingly refreshing. It is a bass heavy, poppy, make-you-dance kind of single that has you listening over and over in an effort to hear and identify all the beautiful nuances. It reminds me slightly of Muse (not a comparison, just a comment on their sheer talent) because everything is so succinct and the sparse guitar licks give it that character you don’t find in most main stream rock songs these days. Lead singer, Richard Boardman’s R&B inspired vocals are almost seductive as he sets this track apart from the darker, more avant-garde electronic tracks from their previous album, Acolyte.
When people say a band has changed, it is usually in a negative connotation. Few acts have been able to follow-up an album with something better than its predecessor and even fewer can achieve this feat with a fundamental shift in atmosphere and sound. I think Delphic may just pull it off, but who knows, this could just be the gem of the album. Let’s find out together on January 28, 2013 when the new album, “Collections” is released via Polydor.
